Groundwater Table
Developed to address National Science Education Standards

Grade Level: Middle School/High School
Subjects: Earth Science/Environmental Science and Hydrology

Are you drinking contaminated water? The Groundwater Table simulates many real-world groundwater processes involving the water cycle, aquifers, and contamination. Food coloring dye is used to trace underground pathways of clean and/or polluted water using a pre-molded water channel model and a pump. Other activities include sinkholes, caverns, geysers, and hot springs.

The National Research Council (NRC) has addressed the critical importance of water in our lives through the National Science Education Standards (NSES). The Groundwater Table demonstrates this importance by simulating residential and commercial contamination from pesticides, fertilizers, chemicals, septic tanks, and landfills. Lessons are designed to be easily adapted to grade-level benchmarks.

Fluid Dynamics Simulator, “Flow Table”

Simulate over fifty real-world water, air, and magma events. Flow Table may be used as a “wind tunnel”, stream table, wave tank, or ripple tank. It is simple to use. Pre-cut event plates are placed in moving water or Rheoscopic fluid. Dye highlights changes in linear and circular flow patterns.

Earth Science activities include: air masses, cold/warm fronts, jet streams, groundwater, density currents, longshore currents, rivers, plate tectonics, volcanic eruptions, and many others.

Physical Science activities include: Bernoulli’s principle, aerodynamic/hydrodynamic flow, flight, draft, eddies, ventilation, channels, rivers, etc. Also, includes lessons and activities associated with sound, water, and seismic waves.

Demonstrations and “hands-on” activities are designed to give students grade-level knowledge about the geosphere, hydrosphere, and atmosphere by connecting Physical Science principles to Earth Science processes.

Earth and Space Rotation Table
Developed to address National Science Education Standards

This kit demonstrates rotation and revolution motions-- the spinning actions found on earth and in space. Cyclonic flow patterns are created to illustrate clockwise and counter clockwise movements found in oceans, the earth’s mantle, planet atmospheres, orbits, and outer space formations (i.e solar system, galaxies, nebulas).

Water, dye, vegetable oil, and other highlighting mediums are used to show a variety of circular movements. Lessons are designed to be adapted to grade-level benchmarks.

Pressure Principles Technology Kit
(Upgrade, formerly called Pressure Principles Submarine Inquiry Lab Kit)
Developed to address National Science Education Standards

Grade Level: Middle School/High School/College
Subjects:
Physical Science, Technology, Engineering Design, Earth Science, Life Science

Classroom demonstrations and activities combine science process with technology: Pascal’s Principle (equalizing pressure), Charles’s Law (temperature and volume), Boyles’s Law (pressure and volume), Archimedes’ Principle (density/buoyancy).

Hydraulic pressure activities include: lift/hoist/jack, dozer blade movement, vehicle brake operation, and fracturing rock. Other related pressure concepts involve lung diaphragm (inhaling/exhaling), eardrum, siphon, and vacuum effect.

New and improved submarine pressure activities include changes in volume, temperature, and buoyancy. Students have fun controlling depth using an air pump and density weights as they dive, hover, and surface a submersible. Experiments include charting/graphing ballast tank air volume in salt and fresh water. Individual and team activities require predicting, evaluating, and sharing results.

Activities may be adapted to grade-level benchmarks.

Recommended: One kit for teacher demonstrations. Two kits for group activities involving up to sixteen students.

Earth and Space Force-Motion Wheel
Developed to address National Science Education Standards

Grade Level: Middle School/High School/College
Subjects: Physical Science, Earth Science, Environmental Science

Trial and error experiments include testing different launch trajectories (i.e. projectiles, rockets, asteroids), plotting paths, analyzing data, and evaluating outcomes. Other kit activities include cyclic motion of air, water, magma, and constellations.

Earth Science topics: weather, climate, plate tectonics, water cycle, carbon cycle, rock cycle, polar constellations, asteroids, and orbits.

Physical Science topics: gravity, magnetism, trajectory, Coriolis effect, and unbalanced forces that change speed or direction of an object.

Lesson activities are designed to be adapted to grade-level benchmarks.

Rock Cycle Resources “You Be The Geologist”
Developed to address National Science Education Standards

Grade Level: Middle School/High School/College
Subject: Earth Science, Environmental Science

Students are the Geologist! They will analyze basic rock cycle information, predict where minerals and fossil fuels may
be found, and then actually drill for simulated deposits of gold, oil, gems, and diamonds. Deposits are colored coded for identification.

This “hands-on” kit engages students in field-like experiences involving real-world exploration situations. Activities require students to use inductive-deductive reasoning skills, problem solve,make group decisions, develop hypothesis/theories, take risks, draw conclusions, and evaluate outcomes.

Activities are designed to be adapted to grade-level benchmarks.

Sea Floor Simulation Kit
Developed to address National Science Education Standards

Grade Level: Middle School/High School
Subject: Earth Science, Environmental Science

This durable versatile model is designed to be hand-held or submersed in a standard ten gallon aquarium. Major sea floor topographic features and plate tectonic graphics are depicted on the 3-D model.

The seascape model is designed to give students a view of sea floor geology, as well as, colorful cut-away profiles related to theories on sea floor spreading and continental drift.

Aquarium activities simulate several variables related to ocean circulation such as turbidity, salinity, convection,
and upwelling currents. Food coloring dye, salt, and ice are used to give the viewer a first-hand look at how currents sweep across the ocean surface, down slopes, and and along the sea floor. When submersed the model also simulates rift vent and volcanic eruptions.

Lesson and activities may be adapted to grade-level benchmarks.
